INTRODUCING MIKELA JULY

STEPPING OUT OF HER COMFORT ZONE
Mikela July was born and raised in Petersburg, Virginia and currently resides in Richmond, Virginia. She is the proud wife of Evan July II, who is also her executive producer, and they have two wonderful children, Lil E and Essie.
Being the daughter of a pastor, raised in the church, and a member of a musically inclined family, Mikela was destined to sing. She recognized she had the gift of singing when she was four years old and began imitating her older sisters who have angelic voices. Although she loved singing at home, she was very shy and fearful of singing in front of others. Despite many tears and much resistance, Mikela’s mother made certain she sang front and center with the Youth Choir on Sundays. Although still shy and a little timid at times, this laid the foundation for Mikela to become comfortable with being uncomfortable. She continues to sing for the Lord and support her church’s music ministry until this day, exuding confidence, even when nervous.
When she was only five years old, she started offering voice lessons to her sisters’ friends and landed her very first client.
By age seven, she was writing songs of her own and imagined that she would one day share her songs with the world.
Throughout her middle and high school years, she was a lead singer in various choirs; she sang for the renown Peabody Step Team, numerous community events, awards ceremonies, and weddings. While attending the College of William and Mary, she sang with the Ebony Expressions Gospel Choir and at several campus events.
In 2016, she took voice lessons at BGA School of Music to enhance her natural ability and improve her techniques.
Two years later, she was selected to sing at the Western Governors University commencement ceremony in Las Vegas.
In 2019, her husband purchased recording equipment as a way to encourage her to bring songwriting back to the forefront of her life. This rekindled her desire to record songs she wrote as well as new music.
Mikela was obliged to support the music careers of several local artists and found great joy and comfort in singing background vocals. However, she is now stepping out of her comfort zone to sing and record the songs God gave her to share with the world.
She currently sings with the Faith and Hope Temple Church of God in Christ Praise and Worship Team, and recently arranged and led an Air Force Officer Training School Quartet in an original rendition of the National Anthem.
Mikela enjoys mixing elements of neo soul, afrobeat, contemporary christian, and gospel to create inspirational music that can bless many.
